Spirit

The spirit is our reflection of the way we perceive our universe. We express our spirituality through the creative arts. Each individual has the capability to express his or her unique outlook through the medium of their choice, indicative of both their values and sensitivities. Growth of the spirit is a vital component of a healthy lifestyle, and constant creative expression promotes increased motivation and interest in all areas of life.

Visual Arts

The visual arts, such as painting or sculpting, allow an individual to show others an aspect of his or her personal realm, filtered thorugh the materials of the immediate environment. Weaving and pottery, for example, began as practical necessities, and evolved with the input of each creator over time to express elements of cultural significance and ideals of beauty.

Music

Music is strongly rooted in every known culture as an expression of intense emotion, a method of communication, a ritualistic gateway, and a common source of entertainment. Music is used to celebrate life and passion, using tone and vibration from both inside our bodies and through instruments and tools of all kinds. Singing, percussion, and wind and string instruments have each played varied and distinctive roles in the ceremonies of humanity. The appreciation of music is as important as its creation in spiritual context. The listener is affected by the emotional frequency of the music's creator, allowing him or her to absorb the spirit of the music and the performer.

Performance Arts

Performance arts allow a three dimensional expression of spirituality. Dance and theatre have always had a role in illustration of oral traditions, allowing audiences of all ages to share in emotional expression, to be educated, or to participate in significant cultural events. Performance art can be as varied as poetry readings to kabuki theatre to belly dancing, each a unique reflection of the performers' upbringing, interests, traditions, and values. Performance artists can seek to entertain, to inform, or to influence others on matters of political, social, or emotional importance.

Philosphy and Religion

Philosophy and religion are attempts to define spirituality through the confines of language. We are guided by moral principles outlined by those who we respect or who have made contributions to the framework of our culture. Philosophical writings and religious texts explain concepts using parables, metaphors, stories, and mysteries to guide our own thoughts within the context of specific cultural traditions. This creates a social identity by building a common ground of morals, theology, and our own sense of purpose.

Meditation and Reflection

Meditation and reflection are the unifying agents with which we process the information we receive, and create a coherent sense of ideology. By venturing into our own inner space, we are naked before our own truths and able to freely examine them. Our reflection on these aspects allows us to express our spiritual morality through all the aspects of our lifestyle. With these tools, we make sense of our consciousness for ourselves alone. This becomes the gateway to every form of conscious expression.
